Power Battles

There are hundreds of fights in this franchise and most of them you forget the second they’re over.

I’m not talking about those. I’m talking about the ones where something was at stake beyond just winning. Where a character broke. Or finally became what they were supposed to be. Or proved something nobody believed about them. Those fights.

You remember the outcome. But do you remember why it mattered.

Goku vs Frieza “The fight that broke the main character and built him back different” Frieza kills Krillin right in front of him. Just casually. Out of spite. And something in Goku that had never switched on before just switches on. He goes cold. That’s the word for it. Not angry. Cold. And the first Super Saiyan transformation isn’t a celebration it’s a breaking point. That’s why it still hits after all these years.

Gohan vs Cell “The kid who hated fighting had to finish it” Everything about this fight is about Gohan not wanting to be there. And Cell knows it and uses it. And Android 16 says one thing and gets crushed and that’s it. Gohan stops holding back not because he wants to win but because he finally runs out of reasons not to. Father-Son Kamehameha after that. I mean come on.

Goku vs Jiren “One used every transformation he had. The other used one form.” Goku showed up with Super Saiyan 1 2 God Blue Kaioken x10 x20 and Jiren just stood there in base and made all of it look like warmup. And then Ultra Instinct happened because Jiren pushed Goku somewhere his body had never been. This fight is the reason Ultra Instinct exists. Remember that.

Vegeta vs Android 18 “The moment the prince finally met his ceiling” Vegeta had been building toward being the best since the beginning. Trained harder than anyone. Pushed past every limit. And Android 18 just broke his arm and walked away. No drama. No speech. Just done. That moment quietly set up everything Vegeta becomes after it.

Hit vs Goku “The fight where Dragon Ball actually used its brain” Hit doesn’t overpower Goku. He outthinks him. Time skip. Analyse. Adapt. Repeat. Dragon Ball almost never lets a fight be a puzzle but this one is and it’s different from anything the show had done before. Goku had to evolve mid-fight just to keep up. That’s rare.

“Every fight in this list changed someone. That’s the only qualification that matters.”
