Super starts lighter than Z ended and honestly that was the right call. Beerus shows up as this incomprehensibly powerful god of destruction and somehow the most memorable thing about him early on is that he’s petty about food and naps. That tonal shift was intentional and it worked. Then Frieza comes back golden and reminds everyone exactly why he’s the most irreplaceable villain this franchise has. Neither of these arcs is trying to be deep. Both of them are just fun. And sometimes that’s exactly what a relaunch needs to be.
